About BroadeningtheMind.Com

We are currently witnessing a shift in the way travel is undertaken. Our grandparents are now taking gap years and our children are choosing to study abroad more than ever. There is certainly a world of opportunities out there: it’s just a case of searching for them. Although moving, living or studying abroad may seem daunting at first, I believe this is mostly down to lack of knowledge on the matter. As long as you have the reason, resources and motivation, you too can enjoy extended travel.

BroadeningTheMind.com was established in 2008 by Lydia Horrex. Lydia's philosophy is to provide up-to-date, real-life accounts of moving, living, and studying abroad rather than selling a destination by merely painting a rosy picture. Lydia's aim is to give practical, meaningful advice through interesting articles told from personal experience.

Lydia Horrex

Lydia Horrex is no stranger to the world of living, working and studying abroad. In 2005 she won a place to transfer from Cardiff University to UCLA to finish her studies as a Philosophy Major. After graduating in 2006, Lydia moved to Egypt where she continued her love for travel by working in Luxor and Sharm el Sheikh for six months.

From March 2007 through to March 2009 Lydia spent two years living and working Down Under. This was made possible though the UK's reciprocol working holiday agreement between Australia and New Zealand. Lydia is currently working in Manchester and is due to start a part-time Philosphy Master of Research later this year at Manchester University.
